The extracts exhibited strong antioxidant and radical scavenging activity on ABTS radical cation, DPPH free radical, hydrogen peroxide, superoxide radical and hydroxyl radical. The extracts showed strong activity in Iron reducing power assay. The extracts also produce potent cytotoxic effect against Human cancer cell lines viz. Human cervical cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer and liver cancer cell lines. The antioxidant, free radical scavenging and cytotoxic activities of the extracts were comparable to standards used. Preliminary phytochemical analysis of these extracts showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, polyphenolics and saponins. The antioxidant and anticancer activity of the extracts may be due to the rich amount of these phytochemicals. Therefore, the plant could be considered as a very good antioxidant and anticancer source with therapeutic potential.
<Email>thrisen@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>4</volume><issue>2</issue><year>2014</year><keyword>Indigofera cordifolia, antioxidant, free radical scavenging activity, cytotoxicity,MTT assay,flavonoids</keyword><AUTHORS>Dhanasekaran Thangavel,Jeyabalan Govindasamy,Raju Senthil Kumar</AUTHORS><afflication>Research Scholar, Sun Rise University, Alwar, Rajasthan, India,Faculty of Pharmacy, Sun Rise University, Alwar, Rajasthan, India.,Swamy Vivekanandha College of Pharmacy, Tiruchengode, Tamilnadu, India.</afflication></Article></Articles>
