EFFECTIVENESS OF NEURAL MOBILIZATION AND CENTRAL GLIDES FOR PATIENTS WITH CERVICAL RADICULAPATHY

Cervical radiculopathy is a clinical condition frequently encountered in the physical therapy clinic. Cervical radiculopathy is a result of space occupying lesions in the cervical spine, cervical disc herniations, spondylosis, or osteophytosis. These affect the pain generators of bony and ligamentous tissues, producing radicular symptoms observed in the upper extremity of patients with cervical nerve root pathology. Experimental study design was used and Patients who were diagnosed with cervical radiculopathy were taken by quasi randomization and the inclusion criteria includes Subjects Diagnosed with Cervical Radiculopathy (compression and distraction test positive), Age 30 - 60 years, Patients with unilateral upper extremity symptoms and central glide and neural mobilization were given 5 days a week for 3 weeks. Outcome measures were collected at the baseline and at the end of 3rd week by using numerical pain rating scale and neck disability index. Pre test and post values differences were compared so as to evaluate the effectiveness of two physiotherapy interventions in the present study. The mean of neck disability index before and after the treatmant are as 18.87 and 1.47 and for numerical pain rating scale are 7.40 and 2.53 respectively. The SD of NDI are 5.21 & 1.46 and for NPRS arev1.50 and 1.51 respectively. The p values of both NDI & NPRS are <0.0001 and found extremely significant. The statistical results of this study concludes that there is effectiveness of central glides and neural mobilization in cervical radiculopathy.
