This study investigated the possible antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimalarial activities of Spilanthes filicaulis leaf extract. S. filicaulis leaf was extracted with methanol and concentrated in vacuo to obtain the methanolic leaf extract which was later partitioned successively with n-Hexane, Ethylacetate, Dichloromethane and Butanol to obtain its fractions. Antioxidant activities were evaluated using 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging, Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) and total antioxidant activity assays while the stabilization of erythrocyte membranes and inhibition of denaturation of albumin were carried out to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activities. In-vivo anti-plasmodial test was investigated in chloroquine (CQ)-sensitive Plasmodium berghei NK 65 in varying oral doses using suppressive, prophylactic and curative models. The extract and its fractions exhibited significant concentration-dependent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in the order ethylacetate> methanol > dichloromethane > n-hexane >butanol> aqueous extract. S. filicaulis exhibited significant parasitaemia chemosuppression of 79.88%, 77.00% and 81.37% (p < 0.05) in the suppressive, curative and prophylactic models respectively. The results indicated that the methanolic extract of the leaves of S. filicaulis possessed significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimalarial properties.
