The aim of this study was to formulate and in vivo evaluation of in situ oral topical gels of Miconazole based temperature induced systems for the treatment of oral condidiasis. Conventional oral formulations like solution, suspension, and ointments have many disadvantages which result into poor bioavailability of drug in the buccal cavity. The poor bioavailability and therapeutic response may be overcome by the use of mucoadhesive in situ gel forming systems that are applied as liquid into the buccal cavity and undergo a sol-gel transition which have good mucoadhesion with buccal mucus layers. The objective of this study was to formulate and in vivo evaluation of in situ oral topical gels of Miconazole based temperature induced systems for the treatment of oral condidiasis. Mucoadhesive systems were prepared by using polaxamer 188 combined with carbapol 934. These gelling systems were evaluated using rabbits and mice. All in vivo studies showed potential antifungal against candida albicans.
